Onion exporters are hoping that they will be able to win more orders from buyers abroad after domestic onion prices tumbled further from the highs of Rs 4,000 a quintal in mid-February 2021. Modal prices of the bulb have plummeted to Rs 1,000 a quintal at Asias biggest onion market in Lasalgaon, from Rs 4,000 on February 20 and Rs 2,640 on March 1. Arrivals are learnt to have doubled in markets such as Lasalgaon, whereas demand remains constant. Exporters are also hopeful of increasing orders because the quality of Indian onion is superior to those from other countries, including Pakistan, as per a report.
